The Science Of Growing A Legendary Beard

HOW USING BEARD WAX DESTROYS YOUR BEARD
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, I am NOT A FAN of using beard wax on your beard. Now, there are most certainly a myriad of reasons that galvanize my position on this, but when I’m asked by customers “why aren’t we selling a beard wax”…I usually get a good amount of push back when I tell them we have no plans to.
I also realize that boldly making the claim not to use beard wax, without providing proof and valid chemistry to back it up, does seem a little unjustified. So, let’s do that…shall we?
Let me first say this; Guys, I get it. Beards can be very unruly, stubborn and downright difficult to style and maintain, so a common belief is that a heavy holding compound (such as a beard wax) will at least batten down the facial foliage and make it look a little better. That reasoning I can agree with.
With this being said however, there are some rather harmful consequences to your beard when you use beard wax, and it is possible, if you keep using it, that wax will ferry your man-hedge to the land of the dead. Can you hear me now?
For the record, I’ll also clarify that it’s more of the “removal” process of beard wax that is ultimately harmful, rather than the wax simply setting on the hair shaft (which is not ideal either, but we’ll get to that).
THE MOST COMMON BEARD WAX
By far the most common beard waxes on the market today, are comprised of beeswax (unfiltered yellow & filtered white) and accompanied usually by a natural butter (shea or cocoa) which softens down the wax to a working consistency. Beeswax alone is simply too rigid for a practical daily usage, which is why you’ll see a whole host of butters, oils, additives and natural substances tossed in to your beard wax products to make them workable.
Beeswax, as most people know, is the infrastructure of the honeycomb, which is secreted by the bee’s rear abdomen in the form of micro flakes. Consisting of around 284 isolated compounds, beeswax is primarily made up of long-chain alkanes, fatty acids, esters, polyesters and hydroxy esters, and has a melting point of 140° F. Beeswax is also water insoluble, meaning it can’t be penetrated or broken down by water, so good luck getting your beard wax washed out in the shower!
However, beeswax can be broken down and solubilized by solvents such as carbon tetrachloride (used in fire extinguishers & refrigerants), warmed ether and chloroform, but if you’re going to use these to clean the wax from your beard…just shave it off right now and save yourself a trip to the ER!
LEGENDS BEARD Public Service Announcement: DO NOT USE Carbon-Tetrachloride, Ether or Chloroform to clean the wax from your beard, in any way shape or form…YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!
DRAWING OUR FIRST CONCLUSION
Now that we know the beard wax you’re using CANNOT be solubilized or broken down by water, or even soap/shampoo/cleansers and water, what conclusion can we draw from this? Answer: The wax remains on the beard hair shaft until removed by toxic solvents, or through an entire removal (shave) of your beard. Any takers? Didn’t think so, let’s proceed…
Whew, I almost forgot: Knowing that beeswax becomes liquid at 140°, FORGET ABOUT trying to remove it with high temperature! 131° on the skin causes 2nd degree burns, and 140° will cause your skin to go numb and start breaking down! You could request a skin-graft later on, sure, but you might not ever grow a beard again.
THE BEST BEARD IS A FULLY HYDRATED BEARD
I wrote an article awhile back entitled, “GROW A THICKER BEARD WITH OIL-LOCKING”, wherein I detailed a specific regimen for massively expanding your beard through my “secret” daily protocol, and I would strongly recommend you catch up on things by reading that article…if you haven’t already.
In the article, I talked specifically about a certain protocol I use every day, and the proprietary hydrolate I’ve developed in the LEGENDS LAB, all of which achieve astonishing beard thickening results you can instantly see in the mirror. The crux of that article though, was to detail the absolute importance of beard hair hydration, and how you go about achieving it. So anything that impedes your beard’s ability to absorb and use our hydrolate, is something that should be abandoned immediately. Beard wax is among the worst.
So my question to you is, would you rather learn how to nearly double the thickness and overall health of your beard, and learn how to train it properly…or would your rather continue with the outdated and harmful applications of beard wax? It really is just that simple.
I REALLY LIKE MY BEARD WAX THOUGH, AND WANT TO KEEP USING IT
Then by all means, feel free to do what you want to do. My job here at LEGENDS BEARD, is to simply impart to you the discoveries and truths we achieve in our lab, through the practice of applying smarter science reasoning and creative chemistry. You can take as much of, or as little of that wisdom as you want, and design your own daily beard maintenance plan if you so choose.
Our primary goal at LEGENDS BEARD, is to help men worldwide grow the Most Epic and Legendary Beard a man is capable of growing, while simultaneously teaching them the smarter science and creative chemistry that fuels the journey and proves it efficacy.
THE INCONVENIENT CROSSROAD WE’VE COME TO
I know it sounds very arrogant, but LEGENDS BEARD is NOT responsible for the wide-spread ignorance plaguing the bearding industry as a whole, and how that ignorance has found its way into product development across the board. Beard wax is just one area that proves companies have no idea what they’re doing, evidenced by the fact that they offer no “exit plan” for the mess they haphazardly create.
The saddest part of this whole thing, is that among the most prevalent beard product companies on the market today…LEGENDS BEARD is the only one not pushing a beard wax product. And scientifically speaking, why would we, when our alternatives are far superior!
So you’re left to draw your own conclusions, and hopefully you’ll draw them correctly. Either the scientific facts and known chemistry behind our conclusions are wrong, or the other companies in this space could care less about what they sell you…as long as you’re uninformed enough to buy it.
DRAWING THE FINAL CONCLUSION
The most basic facts are, that beard wax undeniably adheres to the hair shaft and cannot be removed by water, soap and water, shampoos and water….only by toxic solvents, a full shave or dangerously high temperatures. Beard wax prevents hydration/hydrolate from reaching and nourishing the outermost permeable core of the hair shaft, hence facilitating a more rapid onset of beard hair dehydration. Any oils used before a beard wax application will be trapped on the hair shaft further preventing hydration, whereas oils applied after a beard wax application will be rendered useless. The more beard wax applications that occur, the more exacerbated the problems become, and a more weighted hair shaft becomes more susceptible to breakage and clumping. Catching the drift?
You see, nature is amazing in its design, and its straight-forward and logical existence is perfectly tuned for the task at hand. We’re given these miracles to study and learn from if we choose to, but we’re also so easily befuddled by them when we’re devoid of knowledge.
My suggestion is, let’s leave the beeswax to the beehive, where it makes perfect sense!
